September 2019 Events: Drive Electric Week

National Drive Electric Week is September 14-22, 2019. A nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today’s widespread availability of plugin vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. They are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. All events across the country can be found at

Join San Isabel Electric and local electric vehicle owners in the Pueblo West Library parking lot for the 50Fest Electric Vehicle Tailgate Party. Come hang out with EV owners showing off their cars. Learn about the pros and cons of owning an EV, from the owners themselves or take a test ride. Employees from San Isabel Electric will also be demonstrating how the new Pueblo West community Electric Vehicle Charging Station works and representatives from the State will also be on hand to talk about available electric vehicle rebates and incentives.

The Town of Breckenridge, Colorado Mountain College, the High Country Conservation Center, and the Headwaters Group of the Sierra Club are jointly sponsoring a Drive Electric Earth Day event in the CMC South Parking Lot in Breckenridge. Electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle (including cars, e-bikes, e-cycles) owners and retailers and home charging station retailers are invited to attend and display their vehicles and wares and offer rides and/or information to attendees. The Town of Breckenridge has two Proterra electric buses on order and will have a demonstration bus at the event. CMC also has an electric vehicle charging station. October 2018 Meeting: Wireless charging

The October DEVC meeting will be on Saturday the 20th from 12:30 to 2:30 PM in the Lakewood Meeting Room at the Jeffco Library at 10200 West 20th Avenue in Lakewood. In addition to highlights on the CEVC Wireless Charging Subcommittee meeting at NREL (see the DEVC October 2018 Newsletter page 5), we will cover some interesting data collected by our past President, Tim Haas on EMF (Electro-Magnetic Field) Radiation in a few electric vehicle.

Other items for discussion are future DEVC meetings, needed participation at special events, opening for a DEVC Board Member, next year’s NDEW events and any other items brought up at the meeting.

EV Roundup – Metro Denver Green Homes Tour

On Saturday October the 6th as part of the Metro Denver Green Homes Tour, there will be an Electric Vehicle Roundup from 3 to 6 PM at Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 West 32nd Avenue in Golden.

The Green Homes tour is from 9 AM to 4 PM, with a reception from 4 to 6 at Jefferson Unitarian Church. More details can be obtained on the tour by visiting their website at: At the bottom right of the home page you’ll see reference to the EV Roundup during the post-tour reception. We want to have a wide variety of EVs in the blocked off section of JUC’s parking lot during the reception. Owners are welcome to come inside for the reception itself and enjoy the free food and beverages.

EV owners should contact Jim Smith at 303-525-1851 or ASAP to say they’re coming. Jim will be promoting the event in his October 4th column, and it would be nice to indicate the number of EVs that will be on display

The DEVC will be organizing two EV displays in July. The first is on Saturday the 21st for a Solar Energy & Electric Car Show with a “street fair” feel at Ecotech Institute, 1400 S Abilene St in Aurora, near I-225 & Mississippi Ave.

The second is for the following weekend, Saturday & Sunday the 28th & 29th at the Colorado VegFest which will be held at the 1st Bank Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane, inBroomfield.

COSEIA Solar Power Mountain West Conference

The Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association will be holding their annual Solar Power Mountain West Conference at the Hyatt Regency Aurora Conference Center, 13200 East 14th Place, on March 12-14. The DEVC will provide an EV Showcase at their Solar Career Expo on the afternoon of Wednesday the 14th of March, from Noon to 5:00 PM, which is free and open to the public. They would like a variety of 8-10 vehicles for the event. So far we have LEAFs and Teslas, but we need other models. We plan to partner with Civic Center Eats (food truck market) where two thousand people eat lunch during the week. We will close Bannock Street in front of the City and County building and host test drives with multiple EV models and e-bikes. The first 100 people to test drive will receive a free lunch at the food trucks. Also along Bannock will be an EV car show where EV owners, City fleet vehicles, and electric business fleets will showcase different models and interact with the public. Vehicles will also be staged at various points throughout the food truck area to interact with attendees and point them to the test drive and EV car show.

Our meeting this month will be a car show on Friday the 25th at Century Chevrolet in Broomfield. Have a EV/Hybrid or another car to show? Please bring it! Refreshments, snacks and activities for both kids & adults will be provided. Planned schedule for the evening:

  • 7:15-8 PM Fun for kids of all ages
  • 8:00-8:45 PM Q&A discussion time
  • 8:45-9:00 PM Photo time of the full and small-sized vehicles in lights.

Come see and drive the new Bolt, Volt and Malibu Hybrids. Check out lots of different EV/Hybrids including home-built conversions, Teslas and more. We’re trying to have one or two of several different vehicles to show pros and cons of each.
