August 2018 Event: Old Colorado City Show

One of the last big car show of the year is the Old Colorado City show in Colorado Springs, CO. The entire downtown of Old Colorado City is blocked off for this event and there are restaurants, parks and lots of stores. Our club was asked to attend by the promoters of the show. We already have quite a few people committing to attend on Sunday and the promoters will reserve a good spot for all of us to park together.

If you’d like to attend, Ace Entertainment asks that you either pre-register on their website ( http://www.aceent1.com/old-colorado-city/ ) or print off the registration form at http://www.aceent1.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/2018-OCC-Registration-Form.pdf and bring it already filled out the day of the show. All EVs are “Show Class 8” when registering.

This is important: Everyone from our club MUST meet at the Mason Jar Restaurant (2925 W Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80904) at 7:00am to register and enter at 7:15am. A spot cannot be held any later than 7:15am so be prompt with your arrival and registration for the show! The show has an entry fee, $35, and is an all-day show. You cannot leave before 3:00pm for safety reasons, but Old Colorado City has so much to do that you’ll spend your time shopping and seeing all the other cars there.

The DEVC will be organizing two EV displays in July. The first is on Saturday the 21st for a Solar Energy & Electric Car Show with a “street fair” feel at Ecotech Institute, 1400 S Abilene St in Aurora, near I-225 & Mississippi Ave.

The second is for the following weekend, Saturday & Sunday the 28th & 29th at the Colorado VegFest which will be held at the 1st Bank Center, 11450 Broomfield Lane, inBroomfield.

Our coordinator for these events, Jill Bishop, needs your HELP. She needs cars other than Tesla at Ecotech. She also needs lots of cars & someone to be in charge on Sunday at the VegFest. If you can help in any way, please contact Jill at: jbanounou@gmail.com

DEVC Member and Speaker, Tom Keller will be giving a talk on Nikola Tesla and Elon Musk on Sunday, May 20th at 1:00 PM. Kay Talley and the Denver Tesla Club will host this pot luck afternoon, so bring a dish or beverage along. Hang out with your fellow Tesla and EV owners, chat and learn some new facts from the speaker!

In addition to being a Historian and Speaker, Tom Keller is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Psychology, with advanced studies in Social Sciences. Did you know that Nikola lived in the Knob Hill neighborhood in Colorado Springs for eight months in 1899-1900 and that he had an Electric Car in the early 1930s?

COSEIA Solar Power Mountain West Conference

The Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association will be holding their annual Solar Power Mountain West Conference at the Hyatt Regency Aurora Conference Center, 13200 East 14th Place, on March 12-14. The DEVC will provide an EV Showcase at their Solar Career Expo on the afternoon of Wednesday the 14th of March, from Noon to 5:00 PM, which is free and open to the public. They would like a variety of 8-10 vehicles for the event. So far we have LEAFs and Teslas, but we need other models. January Meeting: DEVC Business

Our January meeting will be Saturday the 20th at IBEW 68 in Denver. This will be a business meeting for the annual election of officers for President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. We will also confirm additional DEVC Board Member appointees for Webmaster, Newsletter Editor and Committee Chairpersons. Current committees are: EVSE Charging, EV Conversion, Education Outreach and Facebook. Changes to the By-Laws will also be approved. The meeting will then be open for input from the members and visitors on the upcoming 2018 DEVC meetings, events and activities. The December meeting will be at Cinzzetti’s Italian Market Restaurant for the annual DEVC holiday party. The event will be held on Saturday the 9th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at 281 W 104th Avenue in Northglenn. This is an enormous buffet during the last two hours of their Saturday Weekend Brunch and you can check out their Menu at: http://www.cinzzettis.com/colorado/foodmenu/ Coffee, tea or soft drinks are included; espresso or alcoholic beverages are extra. It would be most helpful if you would arrive between 12:15 and 12:45 so we can get everyone checked in beforehand. Members with annual dues current, get in for FREE. If your dues are not current, or you are not yet a member and would like to join us, dues will be collected at the door (Regular $20, or Sponsor $50). All guests of members will be $10 each.
